Week 57

May 1, 2017

Well, another Transfer is coming to a close, it is the last week in this tranfer. I also only have 2 more days with Elder Shafer, afterwards, I will be serving with Elder Sutton. I will still be in Sav, in fact, I will be the District Leader. We had a baptism on Friday, his name is Brother McKnight. We were also able to meet with Elder Martinez and Brother Owen from the General Authorities on Saturday. That was an amazing experience to participate in. They helped remind us of why we are out here, and why we work so hard.
As for the distance to Negril, it takes us close to 45 minutes to get to Negril, depending on how fast the taxi driver drives.
I know that as we listen to the Spirit we will be able to accomplish miracles. I can't wait to tell you about the miracles that are happening in the coming week when I email you next monday. It is that time where I wish you all farewell until next time.

---Elder Wood---

We had another baptism this week! His name is Chris McKnight, he lives in Negril.
Some of his family sang a primary song to help the family set their goals toward the temple now that the entire family is now members. It so awesome that "families can be together forever"!
And as for the last one, Help! I have been buried!

Week 56

April 24, 2017

Just a short email this week. As always, I have many wonderful email to read that sometimes I almost forget to write mine. We have also been very busy this week. We moved out of our apartment and we helped the sisters move apartments as well. Our move went pretty good, as for the sisters they having a few hiccups in the move but they should settle in pretty well.
Now onto the important stuff. We are having a baptism on Friday and it will be wonderful, hopefully with the help of that family and our own efforts we can reopen the branch in Negril so those that are in Negril will not have to travel so far to partake of the sacrament. We just have to work little by little, step by step.
I love all of y'all and I will write to you next week!

---Elder Wood---

Just a picture of Elder Shafer and myself about to head out of our apartment for the day.

Week 55

April 18, 2017

This week ended really weird. As of yesterday we were preparing to do some service in the evening because nobody was really around. My companion climbed up the tree and chopped and chopped, cutting limbs off left and right. Unfortunately the cover for the machete had started to slip, so he tried to adjust it. As he did so, his finger slipped and he sliced his finger. We ended up with the zone leaders and he got stitches. Now he can say that he put his blood, sweat, and tears in to that tree.

While this is just a temporary adventure of getting the finger healed we sometimes get hit with things bigger than just a little blood. Sometimes we have to do things that we never planned on doing, does God want us to fail? Does he not want us to do what we want? No, He wants us to become better. I know that we would never become better if we were never pushed, at least not near as much growth.

I hope that you are all growing and enduring and enjoying life, because it can become a real roller-coaster sometimes.

---Elder Wood---

Doing some service for an investigator on Easter Monday.

Elder Shafer getting his finger dressed before we go to a doctor's office and get 5 stitches.

A halo around the sun while we were in Mo-Bay, isn't mother nature weird sometimes?

Also a great sunset that I got a picture of.

Week 54

April 10, 2017

Hello all, its great to be emailing you this week. I all glad to be here because not too long ago I caught a cold and it tried to slow me down. Although there aren't any hills to climb here in Sav, there is a sun that likes to make things quite hot.
Fast Sunday was awesome, although we are a branch here, we had so many people bear their testimony about the church, the Book of Mormon, and about God's power being restored to the Earth.
In my personal studies this morning I read over something quite interesting that I hadn't thought about for a while. It's in a book called "Our Search For Happiness" it is by M. Russel Ballard. It pointed out that the reason God gives us His power because He isn't here. He gives it to us because He still loves all of us and wants to bring blessings and miracles into our lives. He wants us to talk to Him and all that he asks it that we listen and follow Him, so we can be our best. I know that is true.

I wish you all a happy week,

---Elder Wood---

These are pictures of Sav, which is extremely flat as you will see. The first picture also has my companion in it. Elder Shafer was 'posing' for the picture.

Week 53

April 3, 2017

A lot has happened this past week, but one that you all seem interested in how we listened to conference. We were able to watch and listen to General Conference in the Savanna-La-Mar meeting house. We took the Branch Clerk's computer and plugged it into a projector in the chapel. We then took a 200 foot long telephone line and moved the router into the chapel and plugged the computer into that. We watched in on LDS.org just like most people did.

As for what was said in General Conference. It was Awesome! I loved general conference. I would write more but I am out of time. I will write to you all next week. If you want me to answer any questions, just let me know.

Peace out,

---Elder Wood---

These are pictures I took last week and forgot about.

The first one is a picture of us driving through some bamboo ... trees? Anyways sorry it is a bit blurry, the rain was making it hard for the pictures.

One last picture of the view of the house in Port Antonio. No mountains is Sav.

The final one is the beginning of the trip of coming to Sav.

Week 52

March 27, 2017

Not really any pictures taken this week, Elder Shafer and I forgot to get a picture of the both of us.  For those that are unsure of what I am talking about.
I have been transferred to Sav (Savana-La-Mar) and am now serving with Elder Shafer.  It has been an awesome and busy week.  It is a branch here and it is also massive.  I hope to be able to help the Branch President in achieving the goals for the area.  I have met some really awesome people and am expecting a few baptisms in the coming weeks.
I love when the Lord directs his work because ita a lot less stressful than when you are trying to figure out how to do His work.  If you listen to the Holy Ghost and act on what He tells you.  You will be helped and comforted by our Heavenly Father.  I am out of time for this week, so we meet again next week.

Enjoy your week,
---Elder Wood---

Week 51

March 20, 2017

My Mailing address is still the same, it doesn't change even though I move around.  I will be changing though, I will be serving in Sav-La-Mar.  It is located on the opposite side of the island from Port Antonio.  This past week has been great though because of the members here.  What we missionaries call converts are those who have chosen to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  We have been working with many recent converts of helping their families to develop a closer relationship with Heavenly Father as well.  I know that going from Porty to Sav will be quite the change, but I know that I am now needed there.

I will talk to you all later,
---Elder Wood---

Found another beautiful view in Port Antonio before I head to Sav-La-Mar.  Pictures of a baptism that we had on Saturday, I actually found that we had 15 baptisms in the mission!!!

Week 50

March 13, 2017

It was an amazing week.  Over the past few weeks President Elder Rowley of Port Antonio Branch has been working with the Yallahs Branch President and the Ochos Rios Branch President and the Ocho Rios Branch President to have a Tri-Branch activity.  The other branches took buses loaded to the brim with people.  There was probably close to 200 members there.  It was awesome.  There was no arguing or anything, everyone had a great time.

This is the first time something like that has ever happened for them.  God's church is full of first times.  We are ALWAYS learning and becoming better people, if we want to be.  I know that the members here will remember that well, just like they remember when they first became members.  I hope and pray that you all have a fantastic week.  We will be getting transfer calls on Saturday, so I might not still be in Port Antonio next week, but we will see.

I will talk to you later,
---Elder Wood---

The first picture is Elder Rowley with the Branch President of Ochos Rios President Francis.  These are all different parts of a Tri-Branch activity that we did on Saturday.

Week 49

March 6, 2017

Hello everyone,

It's nice to talk to you all again.  I can't believe it's been a whole week already.  I am almost out of time so I will make it brief.

We have an awesome kid that we are teaching and we should be helping enter the waters of baptism.  I am also in a companionship with two other Elders.  They are Elder Rowley and Elder Rasmussen.  Elder Miller will be in the states for a little bit taking care of a family emergency.  Everything will be alright though.

I can't wait to write all of you guys again next week.

-- Elder Wood --

So first off, we went and found a small cruise shio in the marina.  Although it may be a small cruise ship, it is a BIG boat.  We also helped a member paint part of their ceiling, my comapnion (Elder Miller) was supposed to take pictures of us.  After 2 hours of painting we had to go and he forgot to take pictures.  I guess that's why I am never in pictures, because nobody else remembers to take them.  It was fun, and although I give him a hard time, I really enjoyed him.

Week 48

February 27, 2017

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope that you are all doing fantastic, if you have looked at the pictures yet, you would have learned that our companionship had a baptism this past week.  His name is Nicholi Rampasard.  It was awesome.

We had zone conference this past week.  We learned much about how each of us can be better.  I look forward to sending you more baptismal pictures in the coming weeks.  I know that its possible here, the people are ready.  We just need to prepare ourselves to listen to the spirit.

I wish that we all were able to listen to every prompting of the Spirit, oh how much more we could accomplish if we just listened!

This was also my first full week as a 20 year old.  Man, I feel old.  I can't wait to talk to you all some more next week.

-- Elder Wood --

We had another baptism this week.  His name is Nicholi Rampasard, Elder Miller, my companion baptized him.  We did it a little bit away from the church so we had to hop onto cars and travel.  There were some who rode in the trunk.  Finally there is just a beautiful picture to end it off.

Week 47

February 20, 2017

Greetings from Port Antonio once again.

Its been a whole week and here I am once again to email all of you, except there is something different now.  I am no longer a teenager, look out.  I had my borthday earlier in the week and now I am 20 years old

I was able to have pizza recently, its been a long time since I have been able to have pizza.  I think I am gonna put Little Caesars to good use when I get home, but I also need to stay healthy so I am gonna have fun balancing the two.

Speaking of food, Elder Rowley floured me on my birthday, now I would send home a picture, but I don't have it with me right now.

As for the work, I love being out and sharing the wonderful message that has to be shared to us be God from a living prophet.  As people understand that is message beings peace into their life and unites their family together not only do they enjoy it, it becomes part of them.  It allows you to become a better person and understand what God wants you to be.

I will talk to you all later,

--  Elder Wood --

Some beautiful views of the local area and myself.

Week 46

February 13, 2017

As I quickly write this final email of the day I just want to tell you all that I love you and care for all of you.  I do think about you and I pray for you as well.  Just because I am thousands of miles away, it does not mean that I have forgotten.

As for myself I went on a trade-off with our zone leaders, went to a trainers meeting, and went to a District Leader training this week, oh yeah, we also had transfer calls.  Our district did not change this transfer, but we are gonna be very busy.  We hope to be able to prepare some people for baptism on the 25th.  It's so awesome when someone hears and accepts the message that we share.  It makes all the bad moments worthwhile.

Well, I gotta go, the internet was very spotty today so I did not get to write as much as I usually do.  I wish you all the best.

-- Elder Wood --

The first one is a picture of the Parker family.  We were doing some service for them and decided to take a picture of them on the way out.

The next picture is one of my companion (Elder Miller) and then one of our Zone Leaders (Elder Larson).

The final picture is one of our other Zone Leader (Elder Craig) and myself.

The last two were just after we finished a trade-off with our zone leaders.

Week 45

February 6, 2017

Wow, I am almost out of time for today, but I will say that the Lord will care for and protect all of you.  It may take longer than this life though.  God's plan includes the next life as well, so when things are difficult or strange in this life, rejoice!  For you have grown so much more because of it.

You all have a great week, and I will work on a better email for next week.

---Elder Wood---

So, I did not take many pictures this week, but I did have this one.  My majestic bike (The Gray Baron) and myself getting ready to write to you all.

Week 44

January 30, 2017

Good morning everyone!

It has been a great week here in Port Antonio once again.  It has also been a rather strange one.  For those of you that aren't missionaries, we had a broadcast where we were able to listen to some of the living Apostles.  They told us that many things including how to better do the work, I am so grateful for that.  Some of the things they did was change our focus by helping us set different goals.  THey also gave us more flexibility in our daily schedule.  It was a great broadcast.

As you can see in some of the pictures I sent, Port Antonio had a baptism.  It was Damion, who is the husband of a member.  It has been quite some time since he has considered making the commitment, but he finally decided this is what he wanted.

God is awesome, because even though He knows the best solution to every situation, He doesn't force us to do things His way.  We have to choose.

I wish you all a fantastic week and hope that you are able to stay warm.

---Elder Wood---

So the first picture is just a beautiful sunrise this morning, just wanted to add some sunshine to your day.
The second picture is a baptism that happened here in Port Antonio. His name is Damion Wilson.
The last two are pictures of the scenery of some of our recent trips out of town.

Week 43

January 23, 2017

It's been an awesome week.  We had a wonderful district meeting and we talked about getting a temple in Jamaica.  We also met Elder Gammiet, who is part of the Quorum of the Seventy.  He shared with us the ability to help teach each other by asking questions in a way that all the answers they get are from the scriptures, themselves, or the Spirit.  I am continuing developing my question asking ability.  The college is doing alright, school just started for them.  We might be considering focusing most of our efforts elsewhere at the request of the Branch President because we want to be working with members more.

I am out of time for now, but I wish you all the best (and stay warm).

---Elder Wood---

So, my companion was "towed" the other day.  Jamaican towing is when somebody rides the bike normal and the other person sits on the bar between the driver and the handlebars.  It is strange and different.  I tried to get a good picture, but I wasn't fast enough.

Week 42

January 16, 2017

Alright, so the reason why our companionship did not have a phone was because one companionship became two, and thus we needed a second phone.  Since that point we have been able to receive one.  Don't take thinks for granted!

This past week I have learned that no matter what the result is.  We have to keep trying.  We are finding at a college campus right now, not too far out of Port Antonio, it is called CASE college.  I have good feeling about it.

Stay warm, because I am.

---Elder Wood---

Here are some pictures of the view and a cool abandoned building we found while contacting.

Week 41

January 9, 2017

Well, my body has healed up pretty nicely over the past week.  I no longer have problems kneeling and my elbows are pretty good as well.  As for the missionary work its been unique.  I have been training as you all know and we also don't have a phone with us, or keys to the church building.  It is pretty different than anything I have had to face before.  As I continue to reach out to my district, God, and those that are here in Port Antonio.  My life is blessed as well.

My companion reminded me of how special you are all to me and I hope that you are all doing well.  I encourage all of you to continue to my counsel with the Lord in all your daily matters, he is there, he wants to bless us.

I hope you all have a "blessed" day,

---Elder Wood---

These are some pictures of me with my new companion Elder Miller.  His tie is in his pocket is because he is a new missionary. :)
