Week 94

January 15, 2018

Good afternoon everyone,

We had a baptism on Wednesday, her name is Fiona and she is awesome. We also have a lot of other awesome people that we are working with.

I learned this week about being unique and having fun as a missionary. It is not just to do missionary things but to live a life in harmony with the spirit so that God can work through you.

My companion is about to go and buy some homemade "Clarks" (they are a certain type of shoe).

I was also beat in a domino game by a seven year old.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

The first one is Elder Menlove with Brother Mendez. Elder Menlove was showing him how to play the piano.

The second and third ones are pictures of a Doctor Bird (humming bird).

The last one is Fiona who was baptized on Wednesday.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Week 93

January 8, 2018

I am currently serving in Kingston Branch, its one of the three branches in Kingston (confusing, isn't it). It is probably also the most population dense branch there is. That means that the branch has tons of potential, as you can see from the previous baptism and the upcoming baptism. We are trying to finish emailing now so that we will be able to focus on the people here in Kingston branch for the rest of the week.

Happy belated birthday Dad, I remembered on your birthday but it wasn't Monday.

Happy early birthday Joseph.

Happy baptism Micheal.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Just some pictures of our house this time.

First one is my companion in the Kitchen.

Second is the veranda aka front porch.

Third is our study/sleeping room, perfectly organized as you can tell.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Week 92

January 2, 2018

Lets see, the last time I talk to you guys was a year ago. Which year? don't ask me, I am very glad that I am not doing paperwork in the office, I would keep putting the wrong year on things.

This week was fun. It was indeed a happy new year...even if my companion did wake me up by banging pots together...with some goals in mind (in my defense they are weekly goals, not yearly goals).

We have continued working with Fiona, her date is still on the 10th of January.

Elder Menlove is up to mischief as always. Although he keeps working with the Jamaican in our house and makes some good Jamaican food.

I don't know what else to write in this email so I am gonna send it off.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

January 2, 2018

Hello All,

Its now two days since the beginning of 2018. For those of you who made New Year resolutions I hope that you have kept them this far.

Today we went to Fort Rocky again for yet another round of capture the flag. We won...of course. I have continued to learn that you can have as much fun as you want in whatever you are doing.

The young lady still wants to be baptized on the 10th of this month and she is eager for it. She continues to read and study the scriptures.

That is one of my new year resolution's, to read 10 pages of the Book of Mormon, I to be able to finish it atleast one more time on my mission.

I love you all and can't wait to see you all again when its time.

Until then,

---Elder Wood---

This one is a picture of a baptism that happened in Constant Spring Ward.

I was also suppose to get a picture of the activity today, but I don't have it yet.

I will email y'all next week,

---Elder Wood---

Week 91

December 27, 2017

While I can't say good morning, I will say good evening. Due to Christmas and Boxing day, our preparation day was pushed back until today.

I enjoyed talking to you guys on Monday. I can't believe there is so much snow up there and then I walk outside and I am immediately aware that the "winter breeze" won't be bringing any snow to Jamaica. :)

I can't remember if I told you or not but we are having another baptism on Jan. 10th. Its going to be awesome and we are gonna make sure the font is filled this time.

Elder Menlove is keeping me busy and so is Kingston Branch. They are awesome.

I don't have much else to talk about since I talked to you on Monday.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

December 27, 2017

Good afternoon all,

It has been a crazy Christmas time, and man, am I stuffed to the brim with rice and peas.

With this past week and a bit (due to holidays I am emailing on Wednesday this week and Tuesday next week) we have been able to work with the members a lot and know our area a lot better. We are spending less and less time in the office because the Osbornes are getting a lot better at doing their jobs.

I should be able to be a lot better at writing every week since I won't have 50 people telling me everything that needs to get done.

I wish you all a belated Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

The first one is one of the Branch President's dogs, it is not upset, it got it's lip cut off. Also, its is racist against black missionaries, but not white missionaries.

The second one is Elder Evans, he convinced the somebody to give him a BOOM, which is an energy drink. He than drank the entire thing at like 8 at night, he was up until 2 in the morning the next day.

The last one is a picture of my companion Elder Menlove and myself with the son of a member in downtown.

Big up everyone!

---Elder Wood---

Week 90

December 18, 2017

Good news everyone, my companion and I will no longer be in the office and will be able to proselyte a lot more. Our replacements have come and with a little bit of training they will be able to do the office jobs a lot better than we could.

I also can't believe that Christmas is in 7 days. Another year is coming to a close, I have to agree with everyone else that the years are going by faster and faster.

We had a Christmas zone conference and dinner last week. The food there was amazing and it was great to meet together once again to become better advocates of the Lord. This is one of the reasons that I love the gospel, its not just something dead that you study, but it instead impacts you throughout the day, every day.

We will be having our branch Christmas party on Saturday.

Also, we had a baptism on Friday, her name is Diana. I hope to be able to continue working with this branch and help everyone grow closer to their Father in Heaven.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

The first one is the 'new' apartment that we moved to when our replacements came for the office.

The second is Diana with her cousin.

The third is Diana with my companion and I.

The last one is my companion's 'Christmas tree', he had some Christmas decorations from last year that he set up.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Week 89

December 11, 2017

Its wonderful to see the #lighttheworld in NYC, we even see it here...now that I said that I now need to get a picture of it.

What about the light show for this year!? Christmas is in 14 days? Are we gonna see a Christmas miracle?

I am being rushed out the office right now so that we can go shopping, so I will more properly email tomorrow.

Later for now,

---Elder Wood---

Week 88

December 4, 2017

Good afternoon crazy ones (yes Jonathan, you too),

I have a suggestion for slowing down John, just have him pay for his own gas :).

Sounds like the animal count has changed quite a bit since I left. There are only two guinea pigs left? Also, TWO turtles? what is this Noah's Ark?

As for going home with snow on the ground I believe the picture below says it all.

It has been interesting on my side of things, the senior couple is coming on Friday and we are still living in their house...wonder who's fault that is...

We also are getting to know our new area better, we are now serving in the Kingston branch. It has all of the Kingston parish plus some of Kingston above it. The members there are awesome especially since we are both new there and we are the only two there.

I will write some more later.

With lots of love :P,

---Elder Wood---

Week 87

November 27, 2017

Hello everyone,

You are right dad, it is different hearing that there is Thanksgiving and not going to grandma's house. Thats alright though because we had a late one at an investigators house with the zone leaders and Assistants.

As for Christmas, just earlier today we saw a #lighttheworld video segment. It is still weird to think that Christmas is coming up but it is still very hot outside.

I am glad to hear that the show is up and running, although we will need to make sure Santa gets up there next year, or is replaced with something else :)

I am sending an email to bro. Peterson right after this email.

Oh, it is transfer week and we are switching from Stony Hill proselyting are to Kingston Parish (no we are not moving houses...yet).

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Week 86

November 20, 2017

This email is coming a little late because I decided to hit the install button for some updates BEFORE I used the computer.

Its good to hear that you were able to get some recruits to get the light show prepared for when you turn it on.

As for myself it was a pretty interesting day, the main reason for the lack of correspondence earlier today is because my computer got switched. (more on that in the main email)

Oh, my companion decided to hike to the peak of Blue Mountain.

This has been an insane week. I have traveled to Yallahs, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Junction, Santa Cruz, and Mandeville to name a few places.

I don't know what else to write right now, I will think about it some more and send more tomorrow.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

November 20, 2017

Wow, another week flew by. This one was full of travel. We traveled all over the island trying to help people move into houses and put extra house stuff away. This will continue into this week. One thing is for sure, I will be able to move into a house back home no problem.

Today, the computer I used was switched out for a different one, they upgrade them every few years. Its interesting having to start over on a computer, not having what you are used to. Its also a good way to view every week after you partake of the sacrament. Having a blank slate, and not having any of the garbage that you had put there before, whether on purpose or on accident. You can then use the week to continue putting good stuff in your life.

I have to get going, but I love you guys, and I wish you the best till next week!

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Week 85

November 13, 2017

Good afternoon all,

Sorry for the delay in this email. Between helping out with a zone preparation day and forgetting to pay the mission's phone bill, it has been adventurous. Sometimes we postpone our preparation day till Monday so we can participate in things like this.

I am continually learning that Heavenly Father will only work with our true and sincere desires. He won't really work with us if we don't truly want it. It is up to us be true to ourselves and Him if we want to get things done.

I will talk to all of you later!

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

November 13, 2017

Evening you guys.

So I just want to apologize for not always emailing on Saturday. While Saturday was meant to be our preparation day due to offices being closed on Saturdays, A lot more that business talk happens that day. Like service and conference and tons of other things.

Anyways, I can't believe that its almost Christmas. I mean, its felt like one long summer on my side. I haven't seen a speck of snow (Jonathan, if you send any, it WILL melt ðŸ˜œ). The reason for the writing on Monday this time around is because we met with our zone and the zone next to ours and did a big capture the flag first thing this morning. AKA round two of what we did 2 weeks ago. It was way fun.

I will try to send off a mass email after this one, along with pictures.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

P.S. Elder Cook is going to be on the island on Saturday, so I am not sure if I will be emailing on Saturday or Monday.

Good evening all,

The first one is the beginning of a hike that we went on last Monday.

The second was the reservoir that we were trying to get to.

The third...I found some bamboo

The fourth...We found the waterfall

The fifth...Celebration time!!!

The sixth..."I want to build my house so I can have a view"

---Elder Wood---

Week 84

November 6, 2017

So on Saturday we did a beach cleanup. Man, there were plastic bottles everywhere.I have learned that I am fairly sunburn resistant but when I am out in the sun for 4 hours I do get a bit crispy...luckily most of it has already gone away.

I am using some time right now and confirming what I want to head into and when I want to start it.

I will send more shortly,

---Elder Wood---

Week 83

October 30, 2017

Another week has gone flying by, with lots of blessings and lessons to be learned.

While the office continues to provide me with surprises I am finding most of my joy visiting those around me and talking with just about everyone. I have also learned how to better plan for the future and live in the present.

I have also learned that reading the Book of Mormon everyday give me the strength to not make the some days feel so sour. All of the past few bad days were when I didn't get my reading in.

Oh, earlier today we played capture the flag in some abandoned buildings. That was way fun (we did it as a district).

For those wondering about Halloween, it is not really a holiday in Jamaica, we will be doing everything we would normally be doing except for the fact that zone conference is tomorrow.

I hope that you all have a wonderful week and I will talk to you all next Monday,

---Elder Wood---

Good afternoon all,

So the first picture of this week is what we did earlier today. It was our preparation day and we checked out these abandoned building and also played capture the flag.

The second is just while we were heading to go check a member.

This last one is a dude who plays music in his motorized cart...epic.

More of what happened this week in the coming emails.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

Week 82

October 21, 2017

Good afternoon everyone,

I have finally be able to sit in front of a computer with the purpose to email you and update you on all the madness that has happened for the last eon.

I did indeed walk/run about 3.5k of the 5k, we started late and we wanted to finish, I might try to redeem myself next week. There is a 5k here in Kingston next week. General Conference was awesome.

I am sorry for the delay in emails, as every time I sat in front of the computer it was doing something that was needed to keep power and rent paid to the houses around here.

We have traveled across the island several time the past month. Going to Mo-bay from Santa Cruz, helping Port Antonio move, and delivering stuff off so a Missionary branch president can do a Patriarchal  Blessing Interview Sunday.

We have also been making sure to leave the office by 4 as the spirit has directed. It has been awesome with the people we have been able to meet with and teach. We have a friend by the name of Peter who is on date for the 4th of November. Its going to be awesome!

I need to make sure everybody else still knows that I am alive :) so I am going to email everyone now.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

October 21, 2017

Hello all,

I am alive! yes, I know that I have not been able to send off an email for quite some time. It has been very busy on my end, every time that I seem to figure out how to keep people's light from going out I get a phone call saying that somebody's power has been turned off.

While that is just how things are going to be. I am not here to be a volunteer accountant. I am been asked to help care for the houses that the missionaries but only after I was set apart to be a full time missionary. I can be an accountant anywhere but I won't always have the black name tag on my chest.

As for sharing the gospel, I have learned that it is a lot less of having something memorized and more of being able to listen to those you talk to and listening to the Holy Ghost. I encourage you all to continuously invite the Lord into your everyday lives, it is a great blessing.

I wish you all the best and I hope to write to you all next week,

---Elder Wood---

P.S. I did a 5k last Saturday in Treasure Beach :)

The first one was when we were travelling outside of Kingston, it was foggy and rainy and looked amazing.

The Second was when we were in Treasure Beach for the 5k, we went and visited somebody and they showed us some of the land they took care of.

The third one is with Todd, he lives up in Stony Hill and we were helping him with some of his homework.

The last one is up in Stony Hill and just looking cool.

---Elder Wood---

Week 81

October 14, 2017

So for me today the day started at something like 5 in the morning. We spent the night in Junction and did a 5K breast cancer run at 7 in the morning. I haven't even showered since then...I want to do that, but I did say that I would email you today so here you go, I should have some more substantial email material on Monday.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

October 16, 2017

I Should be writing emails tomorrow after we run to Ochi to help out some elders. So it will be in the afternoon. We have been busy proselyting and a lot of things have changed since I first came here.

I will explain better later.

Love you all,

---Elder Wood---

Week 80

October 7, 2017

This past week has been crazy. I won't be able to actually email till monday, sorry for not emailing last week, between general conference and not being in the office I haven't had a time to sit down and email.

---Elder Wood---

October 10, 2017

Still behind schedule here. Hopefully I can set aside some time in the morning tomorrow to actual focus on you guys. Sorry about the delay in emails with you guys.

Sincerely,

---Elder Wood---

October 10, 2017

Boy, it has been a busy while.

These past two weeks I believe I have spent less than half of them in the office and less than that to use the computer and file everything that everybody wants.

Enough with the excuses, I will do better this week and actually send you guys proper emails in the coming weeks. Its awesome to hear that the light show is up and going. As for Jonathan, he better get ready to start running laps around the block in the morning to get ready for his mission.

I have recently been trained of how to view and understand the yearly budget and we realize that we have a few problems to fix there. General Conference was amazing and they showed more pictures and some videos, that was cool. (it would also be cool to see pictures of the eclipse :) )

I hope that you are all staying warm and that the school heater is fixed so that Mr. Tubbs can get his whiteboard working again.

The underlying reason why things have seem to be so busy is that we are putting a lot of energy into our proselyting, we currently have 4 people on date and are seeing several other people. It is an amazing work and I know that as we follow the spirit we will be led accordingly.

I wish you all the best and I hope that this Saturday is our preparation day, and we won't get super distracted,

---Elder Wood---

Week 79

Emails have been silent - Elder Wood is working hard in the mission field.
